Houses breed hope of Dixie's retail revival

Longtime residents .............  says of the center.

A slumping condo market has developer Dilip Barot emphasizing the hotel portion of his planned Amrit Resort & Residence at 3100 N. Ocean Drive on Singer Island in Riviera Beach.

"We don't want to be perceived as just another condo," says Barot, head of Creative Choice Management in Palm Beach Gardens. "We are a wellness resort."

While Barot still aims to build a 296-unit resort, he says only about 60 of the units will be sold as condos.

Last year he was pitching 189 condos, with prices starting at $1.1 million. Famed Silicon Valley venture capitalist Ravi Ugale is among the buyers, Barot says.

Rooms will go for $999 a night, including spa treatments and meals, he says. Barot has partnered with Aveda Lifestyle, which will run the spa.

He hopes to break ground on the three-tower complex this year and open in 2009.
